1. A wave of Chinese tourists is expected to hit European cities this week as Beijing lifts restrictions on group travel to nearly 30 countries. China's designation of most of Europe as an "approved destination", taking effect on Wednesday, is expected to trigger a flood of tour groups to the region. Until now, only business travellers and individuals who were able to obtain visas were able to travel there. The number of Chinese travelling overseas is expected to swell in coming years as Beijing relaxes rules on foreign visits, creating a substantial new source of business for the world's hotel, airline and travel industries. The World Tourism Organisation estimates that by 2020 the number of Chinese tourists will reach 100m. Last year, there were 20.2m. 2. Ah, summer in Europe. It's when everyone takes advantage of their 35-hour workweeks and seven weeks of vacation and holidays, and everything slows down or shuts down. Meanwhile, Americans toil in envy. But in less time than it takes to get a tan, four powerful European companies have demanded their employees work longer hours. The trend is expected to spread as Western European companies strive to boost productivity and as employees try to keep their jobs from moving to Eastern Europe and beyond. "At some point, workers have got to choose. They can't have high pay and long holidays," says Richard Jackman, a professor at the London School of Economics. The tipping point, Jackman says, happened on May 1, when the European Union, a trade and regulatory alliance of 15 Western European counties, added 10 members, including Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. New immigration restrictions are designed to prevent a flood of cheap labor, but companies in the West are now threatening to move their production east. The math is persuasive: Wages in the Czech Republic, for example, are 40% less than in France, and employees work five more hours a week and get 11/2 fewer weeks of vacation. That's why workers at a Robert Bosch car parts factory in France voted almost unanimously last week to work an extra hour a week without pay, to stop the car components company from moving the work to the Czech Republic. The French finance minister is also pushing to relax the law, which took effect in 2000, that mandates a 35-hour workweek. The law's intent was to encourage employers to add workers, which in theory would reduce the jobless rate while maintaining productivity. The trend is even stronger in Germany, which shares borders with the Czech Republic and Poland and has rigid laws about hiring and firing. Among the converts: • 4,000 employees at two Siemens plants ended a bitter dispute in June and agreed to work 40 hours a week, instead of 35, for no extra money. The engineering giant had threatened to move production of its cellular and cordless phones from a plant in northern Germany to Hungary. • Employees at Thomas Cook agreed last week to postpone a pay increase and accept a 40-hour workweek, up from 381/2, in an effort to put the tourism company back in the black. • DaimlerChrysler struck a deal Friday that lengthens the workweek for research and development staff from 35 hours to 40 hours; employees at its Sindelfingen, Germany, plant, which makes the Mercedes C-class car, will work 39 hours. The company had threatened to move the production to South Africa. As part of the deal, top managers will take a 10% pay cut. There is little doubt the pact will influence union bargaining for thousands of Volkswagen employees later this year. "I am certain that after DaimlerChrysler, the negotiations at Volkswagen over cost cuts and job security will lead to a successful agreement," German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said in a statement from his vacation villa in Italy. The changes could not come soon enough for many corporate directors and politicians. Europe's economic recovery, which started at the end of 2003, is again trailing the USA's. For the 12 Western European countries that use the euro currency , gross domestic product grew at a 0.6% annual rate between January and March, compared with an annualized 3.9% in the USA. The results for the April-June quarter, which are not available yet, are expected to show a similar gap. The No. 1 reason Europe's growth lags the USA's might be that Europeans spend more time on the beach and less at their desks. In Western Europe, output per hour worked was 91% of U.S. levels in 2002, up sharply from 65% in 1970. But in seven of the most advanced European countries (France, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Belgium), workers are just as productive as in the USA, according to the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, which published its 2004 employment outlook this month. "We could confirm the popular perception that Europeans work less than Americans; in fact, they work about one-third less. But we also found that average incomes in Europe were also about one-third lower, because output per hour was essentially the same," says Paul Swaim, economist with the OECD. "Obviously, the next question is: Who has it the best, on balance? Is it better to work less and live with less income?" he asks. Judging by the demonstrations and walkouts at companies such as Siemens and DaimlerChrysler, Europeans want to work to live, not live to work, as the saying goes. But with unemployment rates averaging 8% in Europe, and cheap labor in Eastern Europe, the choice gets simpler, if not easier. "The corporate sector has had enough, and it is now in a better position to start demanding things from its workforce," says Richard Prior, European Economist for HSBC in London. The recent cases "are symptomatic of structural changes that can only continue."
the east and the west, let’s enjoy the combination of the two cultures?
kipling said:“east is east, and west is west, and never the twain shall meet!” but now, a century later, they have met.
they have met in business. they have met in education. they have met in the arts. some people will argue that these meetings will leave us with a choice between east and west, but i believe that the best future lies in the creative combination of both worlds. we can make western ideas, customs and technology our own, and adapt them to our own use. we can enjoy the best of both worlds, because our tradition is, above all, one of selecting the best and making it our own.
i love beijing and hennan opera because it always reminds me of who i am. but i am also a fan of pop music, especially english songs. so i have combined eastern melody with western language. it is called western henna opera.
when two cultures meet, there may be things in one culture, which do not fit into the tradition of the other. when this happens, we need to learn to understand and respect the customs of another culture. then there are certain things some people may not like. to this, i will say, if you do not like it, please try to tolerate it. to learn to tolerate what you personally don’t like is a great virtue at a time when different cultures mix and merge. before us, there are two rivers, eastern and western cultures. at present, they may run in different courses. but eventually, they will converge into the vast sea of human culture.
right now, i can see peoples of eastern and western cultures, standing side by side, singing the olympic theme song: we are hand in hand, heart to heart, together we will shape a beautiful tomorrow! thank you!
It is easy to describe success in terms of money, fame and reputation. But I believe that success is not external. I believe that success comes from within. My definition of success is to be true to yourself, and be true to others. That means, that you must cherish your personal ideal even in the face of adversity. I also believe that success is not discriminatory. Success is not restricted to such a class of people, in fact, it may be achieved by any person irrespective of his race, creed, gender and economic background. A good example of success is that of Beethoven. He is one of the world's most famous composers, yet he was deaf. He could not hear the majestic pieces of music that he created. Yet, in the face of this adversity, he was able to maintain his ideals''that of composing music.
To exemplify what success means to me, I pose a question to all of you. What brings us together here today? I believe that it is the beauty of the spoken word. The effect of pause and the sound of rhetoric are unique to the spoken word. I believe the beauty of the spoken word is even stronger for those who have difficulty in expressing themselves. These people are reclusive and had their emotions hidden within them. I once went to Australia and I saw two pictures, Once was drawn by a normal child, the other was drawn by a child with social inhibitions. The picture drawn by the normal child was simple and plain. The other was life'like, full of details and imagination. What this shows is that these are ideas, emotions and feelings that are locked internally in these children.
My ideal is to be the key, spreading the beauty of the spoken words to these children. These children have been neglected, but I feel that I can and should help these children to find themselves and be able to express themselves.
I realize that this is a difficult task, and there are many obstacles on the way. But I believe in my ideals and I will stick to them''even in the face of adversity. We should never have a premature abortion of ideals'let the child, let our ideals, stand the challenge. For a life without ideals is not living.
Thank you!
In my 18 years of life, there have been many things. University days are the best part of them. I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university. I was impressed by its garden'like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. I at once fell in love with it.
After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.
Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, I made remarkable progress. Now I've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.
Learning is a long process; I'll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. This summer I got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world. A publishing house offered me a part'time job in compilation and revision.
At the beginning I was belittled by my colleagues. But they were really surprised when I translated seven English articles over 5,000 words on only one day. Gradually, they began to look at me with respectful eyes. In their opinion I turned out to be a useful and trustworthy colleague.
I also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be truly happy. So I often take part in activities concerning public welfare. I once went to a barren mountain village with my classmates. We taught the kids there who could not afford school. While showing them how broad and how civilized the outer world is, I was deeply touched by their eagerness to learn, their honesty and their purity. I couldn't control my tears on the day when we left. The precious experience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility on the shoulders of us, future teachers.
today i am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. what is success? it is what everyone is longing for.sometimes success would be rather simple. winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now i am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.
however, as a person's whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated. is fortune success? is fame success? is high social status success? no, i don’t think so. i believe success is the realization of people's hopes and ideals.nowadays, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful. and the most obvious characteristics of them are money, high position and luxurious life. so most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. but the problem is wether it is real success. we all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. if we keep chasing them, where is the end? what will satisfy us at last? therefore, we can see, to get the real success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people's hopes and ideals.
different people have different ideas about success; cause people's hopes and ideas vary from one another. but i am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility. these are the best treasures. so now i am very proud that i have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. it is my success, cause i raise up to challenge my hope.
what is success? everyone has his own interpretation as i do. but i am sure every success leads to an ever-brighter future. so ladies and gentlemen, believe in our hopes, believe in ourselves, we, every one of us, can make a successful life!
wish you all good success!
once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. as he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. he looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. a sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: “hey, chicken! watch out your leg, it’s out!” the ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: “ shi…i am going to trip that elephant.”
right now, i’m standing on this glamorous stage. but everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. around this time last year i was in nanjing competing in another speech contest. that was the first time for me to be in such a large event. of course the pressure i was under was immense too. after a sleepless and stressful night, i went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. that speech turned out to be horrible. i don’t remember how i get down from there, but i do remember afterwards i just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. thanks to all the help i got from my special friends. my confidence was restored. after rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, i am here today. from all that i’ve been through i’ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if i want my life to go on well i have to let go of my past failure. so today, with out fear, i am tripping my elephant again.

During the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-589), there lived a beautiful, intelligent princess name Lechang in the State Chen. She and her husband Xu Deyan loved each other dearly. But before long their country was in danger of being invaded by the troops of the Sui Dynasty. Princess Lechang and Xu Deyan had a premonition that their county would be occupied by the invaders and they would have to leave the palace and go into exile. During the chaos they might lose touch with each other. They broke a bronze mirror, a symbol of the unity of husband and wife into two parts and each of them kept a half. They aGREed that each would take their half of the mirror to the fair during the Lantern Festival, which is on the 15th day of the first Lunar month, in the hope that would meet again. When they were united the two halves would join together. Soon their premonition came true. During the chaos of war, the princess lost touch with her husband was taken to a powerful minister Yang Su's house and was made his mistress.
At the Lantern Festival the next year, Xu Deyan took his half of the mirror to the fair. He hoped that he could meet his wife. It so happened that a servant was selling the other half of the bronze mirror. Xu Deyan recognized it immediately. He asked the servant about his wife. As he heard about her bitter experience, tears rolled down his cheeks. Xu Deyan wrote a poem on the half of the mirror kept by his wife: "You left me with your broken mirror Now the mirror is back but not you I can no longer see your reflection in the mirror Only the bright moon but not you" .
the servant brought back the inscribed half of the mirror to princess Lechang. For days, she could not help sobbing because she knew her husband was still alive and that he missed her but they could not meet forever.
the minister, Yang Su, found this out. He was also moved by their true love and realized it was impossible to get Lechang's love. So he sent for Xu Deyan and allowed the husband and wife to reunite.
From that story comes the idiom "A broken mirror joined together".
It is used to suggest the happy reunion of a separated couple.

A Shepherd-boy, who tended his flock not far from a village, used to amuse himself at times in crying out"wolf !wolf!"Twice or thrice his trick succeeded .The whole village came running out to his assistance when all the return they got was to be laughed at for their pains .
At last one day the wolf came indeed .The boy cried out in earnest. But his neighbors, supposing him to be at his old sport, paid no heed to his cries, and the wolf devoured the sheep.
So the boy learned, when it was too late, that liars are not believed even when they tell the truth.

There was a guy who went into a shop to buy a parrot. There werethree parrots in the shop. One was $5,000; another one, $10,000; and the third one, $30,000.
The customer asked the owner, “How come this guy is $5,000? Thats so expensive for this kindof parrot.”
The owner said, “Because I have trained him and he can talk.”
So the customer asked him, “How about this guy? What can he do that makes him so expensive?”
The owner said, “Well, apart from talking, he can also do some amusing actions, like dancing and so on. Thats why hes so expensive.”
Then the customer said, “How about the third one? What canhe do that makes him so expensive?”
The owner of the shopsaid, “I dont know. Normally, I have never heard him talk, nor dance, nor whistle, nor sing, nothing at all! But the other two call him,The Boss.”

Snow White
Snow White is born on a cold winter day. She is as white as snow. Her eyes are very big, her hair is very long and her voice is sweet. She is very kind and beautiful. Everyone loves her. Her mummy, the Queen loves her, too. But she died.
A new Queen comes. She is beautiful, but bad. She doesn’t like Snow White, because Snow White is the most beautiful girl in the world.
“I will kill Snow White.” So she orders a hunter to kill Snow White. The hunter is an honest man. “You are a good girl; I don’t want to kill you.” So he lets Snow White go.
Snow White goes into a forest. She finds a house, and goes into the house. Seven dwarfs live there. They like Snow White, and ask Snow White to live with them.

A dog is very thirsty. But he only sees some empty pails. There is no water in them. The dog goes on looking for water. He comes to a small house. There is a girl in it. The girl goes out with a pail. “She goes to a well,” the dog thinks and follows her. The dog is right. The girl comes to a well and puts down the pail, and the pail is full of water, there the girl goes back to her house.
“Water! Great!” the dog says and runs to the well. He jumps into the well without thought.”
The water is good. The dog is happy and drinks much. But he can’t jump out of the well. He waits and waits. But no one comes. “I’m hungry now. I must go out,” he thinks.
At the time a thirsty goat comes to the well. He looks at the water and the dog. “Is he water good?” the goat asks. “Of course. Come down,” the dog says. Then the goat jumps into the well, too. Then dog is happy. He jumps on the goat’s back and jumps out of the well.
The dog has a look at the goat and says, “Goodbye!” Then he leaves.

the east and the west, let’s enjoy the combination of the two cultures?
kipling said:“east is east, and west is west, and never the twain shall meet!” but now, a century later, they have met.
they have met in business. they have met in education. they have met in the arts. some people will argue that these meetings will leave us with a choice between east and west, but i believe that the best future lies in the creative combination of both worlds. we can make western ideas, customs and technology our own, and adapt them to our own use. we can enjoy the best of both worlds, because our tradition is, above all, one of selecting the best and making it our own.
i love beijing and hennan opera because it always reminds me of who i am. but i am also a fan of pop music, especially english songs. so i have combined eastern melody with western language. it is called western henna opera.
when two cultures meet, there may be things in one culture, which do not fit into the tradition of the other. when this happens, we need to learn to understand and respect the customs of another culture. then there are certain things some people may not like. to this, i will say, if you do not like it, please try to tolerate it. to learn to tolerate what you personally don’t like is a great virtue at a time when different cultures mix and merge. before us, there are two rivers, eastern and western cultures. at present, they may run in different courses. but eventually, they will converge into the vast sea of human culture.
right now, i can see peoples of eastern and western cultures, standing side by side, singing the olympic theme song: we are hand in hand, heart to heart, together we will shape a beautiful tomorrow!
The precious experience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility on the shoulders of us, future teachers.
today i am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. what is success? it is what everyone is longing for.sometimes success would be rather simple. winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now i am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.
however, as a person's whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated. is fortune success? is fame success? is high social status success? no, i don’t think so. i believe success is the realization of people's hopes and ideals.nowadays, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful. and the most obvious characteristics of them are money, high position and luxurious life. so most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. but the problem is wether it is real success. we all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. if we keep chasing them, where is the end? what will satisfy us at last? therefore, we can see, to get the real success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people's hopes and ideals.
different people have different ideas about success; cause people's hopes and ideas vary from one another. but i am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility. these are the best treasures. so now i am very proud that i have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. it is my success, cause i raise up to challenge my hope.
what is success? everyone has his own interpretation as i do. but i am sure every success leads to an ever-brighter future. so ladies and gentlemen, believe in our hopes, believe in ourselves, we, every one of us, can make a successful life!
wish you all good success!
once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. as he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. he looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. a sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: “hey, chicken! watch out your leg, it’s out!” the ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: “ shi…i am going to trip that elephant.”
right now, i’m standing on this glamorous stage. but everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. around this time last year i was in nanjing competing in another speech contest. that was the first time for me to be in such a large event. of course the pressure i was under was immense too. after a sleepless and stressful night, i went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. that speech turned out to be horrible. i don’t remember how i get down from there, but i do remember afterwards i just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. thanks to all the help i got from my special friends. my confidence was restored. after rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, i am here today. from all that i’ve been through i’ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if i want my life to go on well i have to let go of my past failure. so today, with out fear, i am tripping my elephant again.

nobody knows what time is like, for we cannot see it, nor can we touch it.
time is abstract, which we can only imagine in our mind.
but we do know that time passes very quickly. some students, however, do not know the value of time, nor do they know how to make the best use of it, for they waste it in going to films, playing games and doing other useless things.why do we go to school early in the morning? why do trains run so fast? why do most people prefer taking buses instead of walking? the answer is very simple: we wish to save time because time is precious.
today we are living in the twentieth century. we know that time is life.
when a person dies, his time has ended.since life is short, we must devote our time and energy to our studies so that we may be able to serve our country and the people. but since time is invisible, we often neglect it. lazinss. is the thief of time, for lasiness not only brings us a lot of harm, it also brings us failure. if it is necessary for us to do some work today, let us do it today and not leave it until tomorrow. remember that time is more valuable than money.

Studying at school occupies students a lot of time, so students have less part time, when the holiday comes, they feel so excited and don’t want to study, just sleep and play with their friends all the time. Students can spend their part time happily, at the same time, they can learn things, too. Students can consider to watch movie, I think they like to watch movie of course, because movie is so funny, watching movie is like studying English, what’s more important is that they can learn the countries’ culture, the movies always reflect the countries’ culture. Students can also go to the museum, they can visit the museum, learning the history, they see the real material, it is much lively than the book. The part time is very precious for students, they can play with fun and learn things at the same time.

One night, I complained to my mom about the lack of time. Finally she said,"you are short of time just because you waste precious minutes on complaints and anxiety. The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit in some thing more."
It is the same with filling the jar. Even if you place a dozen fist-sized rocks and a bucket of gravel into the jar, there is still space for sand and water between the rocks and gravel.
The lack of time is just the excuse for my negligence of every single minute. I believe that the great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in six words,"I did not have enough time."The fact is I do have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. The point is I have never touched upon the real meaning of life which lies in snatching, seizing and enjoying every minute of it. No idleness, no delay, no procrastination, no complaint! It is during my moments of complaining or hesitation that my destiny is shaped. Once I make full use of every moment, I believe that, my worries will be gradually cut down to nothing.
Time is the most valuable of all our possessions, but the most perishable as well. As Henry David Thoreau said,"You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment."
Whenever I fell the lack of time in the future, I will tell myself "Carpe diem , seize the day, make every moment count."

maybe you always ask "how can i get more and more time?" now, i can tell you a story.once upon a time, there were many people in a village which named "gold time". and there was an old man in the village.
villagers called him "time man". because he could "move"time to a lot of places. sometimes he "moved" it to the top of the desk. sometimes he "moved" it to the playground. there were many people on the playground. some did exercises. some played football. and he "moved" it to people's home. they were having a birthday party. and the other people were cooking.in spite of this, many people still said,"i haven't got enough time! time man, give me enough time!" time man was very
angry. he couldn't bear it. then, he killed himself. it was 12:00 p.m. so now we have 24 hours a day.if you think time is not enough. you must hurry up to do every thing quickly. and don't waste time. if you can do every thing well, i think you must be best.do you know? mr. lu said, "we only can get 24 hours one day. it brings somebody gold. and it also gives somebody lazy and unhappy.i only want tell you,"don't waste time."
The time of a date has different standard for boys and girls. Girls always like to be late for about ten minutes while boys always reach the destination on time. If the girls are earlier than the boys, then the situation will become awkward, it is not polite to let a girl wait for a boy. But sometimes girls are always late for more than half an hour, which annoys the boys. It is said that if you call a girl to ask her if she is on the way, then she will answer you that she just goes out of the house, the truth is that she is still in the house. Most girls are late for making up for a long time. It is considerate to be late for a date for a few minutes, but it is impolite to be late for much time.
For thousands of years, animals have trodden a slow path, their spirits together with the body. But our human being's transportation is too fast. The body moves but the soul is left behind. We try to free ourselves in convenience, but we only imprison the soul.Since we invented how to count hours,we do everything to short the time, short the deadline. But the time saved can't be shorten.Nowadays,we spend lots of time staying in front of a TV just changing the channels, while we have no time to talk with a good friend or play with our family. We have plenty of time to search old news on the internet, while we hardly think about our life.In the end,the only thing apparent is our loneliness.
Take your time, please.Try to follow the natural steps and have your own clock.Try to share your time with everybody you love, share your mind, your happiness and sadness.Try to read the world we live in,do not only catch a quick glimpse at the society.
Someday, when we know how to spend every second in our life,we can then live our own life.
i always think there is not enough time. for example, i have just taken a three-day holiday. but when i look back, i just feel that it’s only one day. there goes a proverb, “time is money”.
now i want to say, time is more precious than money, because when money is spent, we can earn some more again. however, when time is gone or lost, never will it return.
time goes without being noticed. the time for our study and work is usually limited. so i think we must make full use of our time. but it’s a pity that i am always not aware of the importance of time until it’s too late.
so i think, i should get into the good habit of saving time because wasting time is equal to wasting one’s life. do not put off what can be done today till tomorrow!

1A Moment That Changed My LifeGrowing up on the small island of New Providence life was a bit more than a walk on the beach but rather trying to make both ends meet. Although it was rough, mommy tried her best to distribute love equally among the 6 of us. We spend most of our childhood years through the streets of Bain and Grant's Town where we attend The Church Of God Of Prophecy Meadow Street. Mommy was a Christian for almost 15yrs and struggled to keep her children active in the church. Most of the time she was unsuccessful in doing that but she never got discourage, instead it made her stronger. At the age of 12, I can say without hesitation that I had no role models. Being the youngest child, mommy strived with me so that I wouldn't turn out the way my siblings did. I hardly saw my brothers at home. Most of the time they were either gang banging, gabling or somewhere nearby taking drugs. Mommy never said anything, but most nights she prayed to God asking him for help with the family. Although going to church was my daily ritual, I found it hard to believe that I never knew God. Eventually it started to show that I was headed in the same directions of my older brothers, but worst. At the age of 16, due to a tragic accident, I was left with no brothers. This crushed my mother knowing that her sons died without knowing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It was weeks later until I saw my mother smiling again. The insurance money left her 'filthy' rich that she was able to take half of the money and bought a low cost home in a residential area. Although I moved away from the busy neighborhood, I continued to indulge in drugs and mischief. I not only took drugs but I also sold it to get by in life. At the age of 23, I was the top 'drug man' in Nassau and the tasks of the police were to capture me and stop my business. Even though this was ineffective, they never quit. Without a high school education, my monthly income was just as much as those who were doctors and lawyers.2I have recently moved to London form a small village in the south east of England, although I have not moved up alone, (I have moved in with my boyfriend,) I still found my new life increasingly hard. It started to seem like I was watching my life fall apart around me, as much as I tried, no matter how positive I was things just did not seem to change.I had no friends up in London and no job; my boyfriend on the other hand had all his friends from uni and a job. Yes I went out with his friends and yes I enjoyed myself, but I knew it was not my life not my friends I was just the girlfriend. I tried making friends when I was out and started taking a few classes but most people were very unsociably, the week and months past and I still had not job and was the tag along.I have always been a really upbeat and happy person, outgoing and fun loving I started to notice I was losing all confidence in myself. I was no longer making an effort to make myself a new life, thinking no one would like me I was not good enough. I managed to secure myself a part time job in a small marketing company; the majority of the staff were old and not interested in my semi permanent presence and if they were It was only to pass the extra work onto me. As a result I was becoming increasing stressed. It was all having such a negative impact on life, my relationship stared to suffer, I had no confidence I thought I was and would always be nothing. One day, when I was doing nothing particularly special, I realized that I hated who I was, who I had become it was like I did not even know who I was anymore, needless to say I was completely lost and this only contributed to me feeling more and more stressed.I did not know what to do, I started reading self help books which made me feel more like a basket case, till one day I read some thing which changed my life. I found a book on floor on a northern line tube, marking the page which I read was a flyer. I took the flyer out and read the passage bellow. “That is why it is so important to let certain things go. To release them. To cut loss. People need to understand that no one is playing with marked cards, some times we win sometimes we loss. Don’t expect to get anything back. Don’t expect recognition for your effort. Don’t expect your genius to be discovered or you love to be understood. Complete the curricle. Not out of pride, inability or arrogance, but simply because whatever it is no longer fits in your life. Close the door, change the record, clean the house, get rid of the dust. Stop being who you were and become who you are.” I don’t know why but it stuck a serious cord, I knew then something had to change, but I did not know how. I had tried. I looked at the flyer which marked the page it was for a company called Healthwise-Global. I though no more of it.I was the first one home; I always was and still am. I started undergoing my daily ritual of reading my emails, which did not help me as 90% were decline letters.I got the book out of my bag to re read the passage, when I thought I would check out the company on the flyer. Healthwise-global, a site dedicated to better health, the strap line read, I was about to click off when I saw they offered stress downloads I clicked on the page and read the blurb.“Leading the market in Stress Management, Relieving Stress Anxiety and Depression. Our professionally designed Stress Management downloads are specifically made to help you eliminate stress, anxiety and depression”I though why not, if chicken soup for the soul couldn’t help me I might as well try this hypnotisms stuff. So I did, it was no hypnotisms, no it was much better, I guess I would call it self hypnotisms.I was willing to give it a go so I listened to it each day for a week, I know it sounds corny but it changed my life. I mean really changed me. It was the kick I needed, the wake up call. The download taught me how to deal with stress, and relax, I mean really relax (bhuddia style, it was amazing) but also taught me how to be more positive, visualize who and what I wanted to be.My boyfriend was the first to noticed the difference in me, his exact words were, “I was wondering when I would get my lou back, I was afraid I had lost her forever.”Form then things just got better and better, out of nowhere I met a women on the tube, I was back to my happy self and asked if she had finished with her metro, we got talking and it turned out that she worked for a marketing company and they had internships going, she asked me to come into the office the next day and meet her, that night I laid there listening to my stress download and allowed the positive message to fill my being.I got the job, to cut a long story short life is now amazing, and its all down to a silly lill download, when I was stressed and depressed I knew I was not alone feeling like that so if anyone reading this identifies with any of this I would strongly suggest going to its amazing, my boyfriend now uses their relaxation download and cant believe how amazing he now feels.I cant tell you how amazing this site is, all I know is that it was a friend who told me to write a blog as she know there are 1000 in the same position and I came out the other side and this site could help all those people who are stressed and depresses like I was .3It was not until laterthat I knew, recognized the momentfor what it was, my life before it,a gray landscape, shapeless and misty;my life after, flowering full and leafyas the cherry trees that only todayhave torn into bloom.Imagine: my cousin at 19, tall, slender. She worked in New York City. For my thirteenth birthday she took meto New York. We ate at the Russian Tea Roomwhere I was uncertain about which fork to use, intimidated by the women in their hats and furs,by the waiters who watched meas I struggled with the huge hunk of breadin the center of the onion soup in its steep bowl. When we were ready to leave, I tried to give the tipback to my cousin. I thought she had forgotten it.She said, "No, it's for the waiter!"On 57th Street a man in a camel coat bumped into me,rushed on by. My cousin said, "That was Eddie Fisher,"but I said, "He's too short. It can't be."I felt let down that Eddie Fisher, the star I was in love with that year, was so rudehe never even said "excuse me." Then we went into the theatersat in the front row. the stage sprang into colored light, andthe glittery costumes, the singing, the magical story, drew me in, made me feel in that moment, that I would learn again and again, the miraculous language, the music of it.My life, turning away from the constricted worldof the 19th Street tenement, formed a line almost perpendicular to that old life,I moved toward it, breathed in this new air, racing toward a world filled with poems andmusic and books that freed me from everythingthat could have chained me to the ground.
The most...time in my life
My Favorite TeacherThere have been many people who have influenced me and those who have set great examples in my life. Many of those people were teachers that I have had from Kindergarten to the present time. If I had to choose one who has had the greatest influence, it would have to be Mrs. Gullion at Lilburn Elementary School in Lilburn, GA. She put much effort and time in teaching music and leading the fourth and fifth grade choir. There are many reasons why she was my favorite teacher of all times, but there is not enough space to share all of these, so I will share three reasons. First, she had the characteristics of a Christian. Second, she made learning music fun. Finally, she gave her all into teaching us.One reason why Mrs. Gullion was my favorite teacher is because of her characteristics of being a Christian. She was always kind, thoughtful, and generous. She continually listened to what we had to say. At the end of each class, if time permitted and if there were people who wanted to, we would have a little show and tell time. Being that we were attending a music class, the only things that we could show and tell were things dealing with music. There were quite a few times during my four years at LES that I would play the piano for our class. I would play songs such as The Entertainer, by Scot Joplin, or even songs that we had sung in class that day. She always took the time to listen to our thoughts and was never impatient with us, and for that I am very grateful.Another reason why Mrs. Gullion was a favorite of mine was because she made learning music fun. It did not matter whether we were in a portable classroom, where space was limited, or in an actual room in the building, where we had plenty of room to move around. She always had
