Text 1 Of all the changes that have taken place in English-language newspapers during the past quarter-century, perhaps the most far-reaching has been the inexorable decline in the scope and seriousness of their arts coverage.(T1) It is difficult to the point of impossibility for the average reader under the age of forty to imagine a time when high-quality arts criticism could be found in most bit-city newspapers. Yet a considerable number of the most significant collections of criticism published in the 20th century consisted in large part of newspaper reviews. To read such books today is to marvel at the fact that their learned contents were once deemed suitable for publication in general-circulation dailies. We are even farther removed from the unfocused newspaper reviews published in England between the turn of the 20th century and the eve of World War 2,at a time when newsprint was dirt-cheap and stylish arts criticism was considered an ornament to the publications in which it appeared. In those far-off days, it was taken for granted that the critics of major papers would write in detail and at length about the events they covered. Theirs was a serious business. and even those reviews who wore their learning lightly, like George Bernard Shaw and Ernest Newman, could be trusted to know what they were a out. These men believed in journalism as a calling , and were proud to be published in the daily press. 'So few authors have brains enough or literary gift enough to keep their own end up in journalism,' Newman wrote, "that I am tempted to define "journalism" as "a term of contempt applied by writers who are not read to writers who are".' Unfortunately, these critics are virtually forgotten. Neville Cardus, who wrote for the Manchester Guardian from 1917 until shortly before his death in 1975, is now known solely as a writer of essays on the game of cricket. During his lifetime, though, he was also one of England's foremost classical-music critics, and a stylist so widely admired that his Autobiography (1947) became a best-seller. He was knighted in 1967,the first music critic to be so honored. Yet only one of his books is now in print, and his vast body of writings on music is unknown save to specialists. Is there any chance that Cardus's criticism will enjoy a revival? The prospect seems remote. Journalistic tastes had changed long before his death, and postmodern readers have little use for the richly uphostered Vicwardian prose in which he specialized. Moreover, the amateur tradition in music criticism has been in headlong . Section I Use of English 解析:A项 affect 意思是“影响,感动”; B项 achieve意思是“达成,完成”; C项extract意思是“提取,榨出”;D项restore是“恢复,重建”. Do not matter 固定表达,故选B。 所以选A。 解析:be subjected to表示“服从于,与……

It seems that the hot pot tastes very delicious because of the rich nutrition of the multi-cultures。 Obviously, the picture characterizes the status quo of Chinese society in which Chinese and Western culture conflict with each other but also merge into a unique form to a certain degree. Since China has opened its door widely to the outside world, many people from different countries have been deeply fascinated by Chinese culture. They will accept and love the Chinese culture as a whole. In addition, Chinese culture should be well shared with foreign people, who have shown their enthusiasm towards China. Meanwhile, the Chinese people are also exposed to foreign cultures when more foreign people come to this oriental country. In this way people from various nations in the world will be able to acquire better understanding of each other and live peacefully in this world。 In my opinion, the culture of any nation is a kind of precious heritage, and belongs to the whole mankind. With economic globalization, the blending of different cultures has become inevitable trend of the time. No country is an isolated island, be it China or the western world. The clearer we grasp the current situation, the more it would be beneficial to the global villagers。
解析:句子的主干是“scientists jumped to the rescue with some distinctly shaky evidence”。 解析:句子的主干是“the noncommercial tree species are recognized as members of the native forest community”,是一个被动语态。句子开头是一个where引导的定语从句,to be preserved是修饰noncommercial tree species的成分。 解析: 句子的主干很简单,即“it tends to ignore and eliminate many elements”。

The hodgepodge could be categorized as literature, moral values and performing arts. As far as I am concerned, the picture characterizes the status quo of Chinese society in which Chinese and Western culture conflict with each other but also merge into a unique form to a certain degree. In the highly-integrated world today, no country is an isolated island. Every nation is faced with miscellaneous alien culture, roaring to overwhelm the domestic cultureand China is no exception. However, it does not mean the foreign culture shall be eliminated or eradicated. It is up to the option of the tasters of hotpot, or in other words, the Chinese people to exact the essence of this combination, be it Chinese or Western, and to take full advantage of the world has in store for us.

Text 3The concept of man versus machineis at least as old as the industrial revolution, but this phenomenon tends tobe most acutely felt during economic downturns and fragile recoveries. And yet,it would be a mistake to think we are right now simply experiencing the painfulside of a boom and bust cycle. Certain jobs have gone away for eating up humanjobs, this phenomenon will continue to restructure our economy in ways we can’timmediately foresee. When there is exponential improvement in theprice and performance of technology, jobs that were once thought to be immunefrom automation suddenly become threatened. This argument has attracted a lotof attention, via the success of the book Race Against the Machine, byErik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee, whoboth hail from MITs Center for Digital Digital Business. This is a powerful argument, and a scaryone. And yet, John Hagel, auther of The power of pull and other books, saysBrynjolfsson and McAfee miss the reason why these jobs are so vulnerable totechnology in the first place. Hagel says we have designed jobs in the tend to be “tightly scripted” and “highly standardized” ones that leave noroom for “individual initiative or creativity.” In short, these are the typesof jobs that machines can perform much better at than human beings. That is howwe have put a giant target sign on the backs of American workers, Hagel says. It’s time to reinvent the formula for howwork is conducted, since we are still relying on a very 20th centurynotion of work, Hagel says. In our rapidly changing economy, we more than everneed people in the workplace who can take initiative and exercise theirimagination “to respond to unexpected events.” That’s not something machinesare good at. They are designed to perform very predictable activities. As Hagel notes, Brynjolfsson and McAfeeindeed touched on this point in their book. We need to reframe race against themachine as race with the machine. In our works, we need to look at the ways inwhich machines can augment human labor rather than replace it. So then theproblem is not really about technology, but rather, “how do we innovate ourinstitutions and our work practices?” to the first paragraph, economic downturns would .[A] easethe competition of man vs. machine[B]highlight machines’ threat to human jobs[C]provoke a painful technological revolution[D]outmode our current economic structure选B . The concept of man versus machine is at least as old as theindustrial revolution, but this phenomenon tends to be most acutely felt during economic downturnsand fragile recoveries. B32. Theauthors of Race Against the Machine argue that .[A]technology is diminishing man’s job opportunities[B]automation is accelerating technological development[C]certain jobs will remain intact after automation[D] manwill finally win the race against machine选A. When there is exponential improvement in the price and performanceof technology, jobs that were once thought to be immune from automationsuddenly become threatened. Hagelargues that jobs in the . are often .[A]performed by innovative minds[B]scripted with an individual style[C]standardized without a clear target[D]designed against human creativity选D. Hagel says we have designed jobs in the . that tend to be“tightly scripted” and “highly standardized” ones that leave no room for“individual initiative or creativity.” to the last paragraph, Brynjolfsson and McAfee discussed .[A] thepredictability of machine behavior in practice[B] theformula for how work is conducted efficiently[C] theways machines replace human labor in modern times[D]thenecessity of human involvement in the workplace选D. So then the problem is not really about technology, but rather, “howdo we innovate our institutions and our work practices?”,作者否定了technology 排除A ,B而C是rather than 后面的内容。选D35. Whichof the following could be the most appropriate title for text?[A]How toInnovate Our Work Practices[B]Machineswill Replace Human Labor[C]Can WeWin the Race Against Machines[D]EconomicDownturns Stimulate Innovations选C .

Part A Text 1 21、【答案】B A special tour 【解析】细节题。答案定位在第二段的“it is far better to spend money on experiences…like interesting trips…”,意思是“花钱消费在经历方面更好……,比如说有趣的旅行……”,由此可以得知答案是B选项“一场特别的旅行”。 答案定位在第三段的“something the average American spends a whopping two months a year doing, and is hardly jollier for it”,意思是“普通美国人一年花两个月的时间看电视,并且看电视几乎不可能更愉快”,因此可以得知作者对于看电视的态度是A选项“批判的”。 B may prove to be a worthwhile purchase 【解析】细节题。答案定位在最后一段的最后一句“most people will come away from this book believing it was money well spent”,大意是“大多数人看完这本书后,认为物有所值”,因此可以推知B选项是正确答案。 A balance feeling good and spending money 【解析】主旨题。 A our self-ratings are unrealistically high 【解析】题目问 “根据第一段,社会心理学家发现了什么?” [A] our self-ratings are unrealistically high。 B believe in their attractiveness 【解析】题目问“Epley发现有更高自尊的人倾向于怎样”。 [B] believe in their attractiveness。 故答案为[D]withhold their unflattering sides。 Text 3 暂缺 Text 4 36、【答案】[B] involves certain political factors 【解析】 根据本题题干中的关键词housing sector可以对应到文章的第二段, 中间说的很多,我们注意到最后有but出现,最后应该是作者真正想要表达的观点,另外这里用了the most significant 级,所以最后这个是最重要的一个原因,politically charged和选项B的political factors有对应关系,故选B involves certain political factors。 It needs to put historical prejudices to one side and take some steps to address our urgent housing need. 因此A(允许更大的政府的建房借贷)是正确的,而B(禁止当地政府建房),C(准备减少建房借贷),D(发布国内生产总值增长的预报)都与原文意思不符。 [C] contribute to funding new developments 【解析】推断题。 [D] stop generous funding to the housing sector 【解析】推断题。
