The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends and neighbors, or sending them on fools' errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. In some countries, April Fools' jokes (also called "April Fools") are only made before midday. [1] It is also widely celebrated on the Internet. The origin of this custom has been much disputed. Many theories have been suggested. What seems certain is that it is in some way or other a relic of those once universal festivities held at the vernal equinox, which, beginning on old New Year's Day, the 25th of March, ended on the 1st of April. It has been suggested that Europe derived its April-fooling from the French [2]. France was one of the first nations to make January 1 officially New Year's Day (which was already celebrated by many), by decree of Charles IX. This was in 1564, even before the adoption of the Gregorian calendar (See Julian start of the year). Thus the New Year's gifts and visits of felicitation which had been the feature of the 1st of April became associated with the first day of January, and those who disliked or did not hear about the change were fair game for those wits who amused themselves by sending mock presents and paying calls of pretended ceremony on the 1st of April. French and Dutch references from 1508 and 1539 respectively describe April Fools' Day jokes and the custom of making them on the first of April. Though the 1st of April appears to have been anciently observed in Great Britain as a general festival, it was apparently not until the beginning of the 18th century that the making of April-fools was a common custom. In Scotland the custom was known as "hunting the gowk," . the cuckoo, and April-fools were "April-gowks," the cuckoo being there, as it is in most lands, a term of contempt. In France the person fooled is known as poisson d'avril. This has been explained from the association of ideas arising from the fact that in April the sun quits the zodiacal sign of the fish. A far more natural explanation would seem to be that the April fish would be a young fish and therefore easily caught. The Dutch celebrate the 1st of April for other reasons. In 1572, the Netherlands were ruled by Spain's King Philip II. Roaming the region were Dutch rebels who called themselves Geuzen, after the French "gueux", meaning beggars. On 1 April, 1572, the Geuzen seized the small coastal town of Den Briel. This event was also the start of the general civil rising against the Spanish in other cities in the Netherlands. The Duke of Alba, commander of the Spanish army could not prevent the uprising. Bril is the Dutch word for glasses, so on 1 April, 1572, "Alba lost his glasses". Dutch people find this joke so hilarious they still commemorate the first of April. The French traditionally celebrated this holiday by placing a dead fish on the back of friends. The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. New Year's was celebrated on March 25 and celebrations lasted until April 1st. When New Year's Day as changed from March 25 to January 1st in the mid-1560's by King Charles IX, there were some people who still celebrated it on April 1st and those people were called April Fools.

The news media even gets involved. For instance, a British short film once shown on April Fool's Day was a fairly detailed documentary about "spaghetti farmers" and how they harvest their crop from the spaghetti trees. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, "April Fool!"
April Fool's Day is a "for-fun-only" observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their "significant other" out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It's simply a fun little holiday, but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant, for he may be the next April Fool!

愚人节英语作文范文篇一
One story dates back to Roman mythology, particularly the myth of Ceres and Proserpina. In Roman mythology Pluto, the God of the dead, abducted Proserpina called out to her mother Ceres for help. But Ceres, who could only hear the echo of her daughter’s voice, searched in vain for Proserpina. The fruitless search of Ceres for her daughter was commemorated during the Roman festival of Cerealia and believed by some to have been the mythological antecedent of the fool’s errands popular on April 1st.

愚人节英语作文范文篇六
There are lots of theories surrounding the origins of the day, but one explanation is connected with the change in the calendar in the 16th century, which meant that 1st April was no longer the beginning of the year. Those who still celebrated the New Year on 1st April were called fools.
So what kind of pranks do people play on April fool’s Day? Well, there are lots of simple tricks that you can play on your friends. For example, you could wear a black sweater and pull a piece of white thread through it, so that people try to pull it off. You could change the time on someone’s alarm clock so that they’re late for work. Or glue a coin to the floor and see how many people try to pick it up.
All these are small-scale practical jokes which you might play on one other person or a few people. But there’s also a tradition of large companies attempting to fool a lot of people. For example a burger restaurant once claimed that they were introducing a left-handed burger!
In particular, the media often try to make people believe something which is not true. Newspapers publish some ludicrous stories every year, although some of them are actually true. It’s entertaining to try to guess which stories are true and which are fake. In the April Fool’s stories, they often include a clue to the fact that it’s a joke. For example the name of an ‘expert’ quoted in the article might be an anagram of ‘April Fool’.
Radio and television programmes have also fooled many people by broadcasting reports which are untrue. One programme announced the invention of an amazing new weight-loss product - water which contained minus calories!
And one of the most famous hoaxes ever was broadcast by the BBC itself in 1957! A very serious news programme called Panorama reported on the poor spaghetti harvest in Switzerland, and showed pictures of farmers picking spaghetti from trees! Hundreds of people were taken in and wrote to the BBC asking how to grow their own spaghetti.

In the 16 th century, people celebrated New Year's Day from March 25 to April 1. In the mid—1560s King Charles IX changed it from March 25 to January 1. But some people still celebrated in on April 1, so others called them April Fools.
Each country celebrates April Fools' Day differently. In France, people call the April Fools “April Fish”. They tape a paper fish to their friends' backs to fool them. When he or she finds this , they shout “April Fish!”
In England, people play jokes only in the morning. You are a “noodle” if someone fools you. In Scotland, April Fools' Day is 48 hours long. They call an April Fool “April Gowk”. Gowk is another name for a cuckoo bird.
In the America, people play small jokes on their friends and any other people on the first of Aprol. They may point down to your shoe and say, “ Your shoelace is untied.” If you believe them and look down to see, you are an April Fool then.
愚人节英语作文范文篇八
This is a distinction between soft hearted and hard hearted day, soft hearted person who made that they have been cheated, but look very foolish. A woman set a few years to save her from the other women get a business card, and no notice of their intention to obtain a number of friends there, and then with a lot of this kind of business card to go fool's day party. Undoubtedly, during this holiday, magic goods stores will be refurbished to provide a lot of tricks. For example, sit up will happen harsh noise cushion; row will be fireworks after the match; and for those who want to fit a ball at the other faces of the people ready sarcoma, fake nose, glasses, beard and putty.
愚人节英语作文范文篇九
The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. New Year's was celebrated on March 25 and celebrations lasted until April 1st. When New Year's Day as changed from March 25 to January 1st in the mid-1560's by King Charles IX, there were some people who still celebrated it on April 1st and those people were called April Fools.
Pranks performed on April Fool's Day range from the simple, (such as saying, "Your shoe's untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate's alarm clock back an hour is a common gag.

At that time, I thought I was asked to get my homework book, so I hurried to the office and said, "Miss Zhang, you call me?" She said with a blank face and a smile: No, I smiled shyly and thought to myself: this villain, I'll see how I deal with you later.
At lunch, just halfway through the meal, Zhang Cong hurriedly came over and said: Xu Xingyue, Mr. Zhang asked you to go to the general affairs office to get the information. Because I was cheated twice before, I didn't dare to relax my vigilance this time. I raised my head and asked him slowly, is it true? He said angrily: I dare not lie to you. When walking down the stairs, we said to her, "Happy April Fool's day, you were cheated by us. Ha ha!" At that time, he was stunned. The next one was Wu Qian. This Friday, the school will hold an examination of martial arts exercises. Before the examination, we practice martial arts exercises in the classroom every day, and decompose the difficult actions one by one. We won't learn them, difficult ones bit by bit.
On Friday, the students in our class were manly and high spirited. Everyone's face was filled with a confident smile. Because in these short days, everyone has experienced "devil training", and everyone has experienced transformation. At the beginning, the order of our appearance was determined by drawing lots. Our master Bai actually drew the first one. "A good start" we will certainly pass the examination at one time. Under the leadership of Gao haokai, Chen Zhihe and Wang Yifan, we started martial arts exercises and sang martial arts songs. Every movement of the students is full of power.
After all the class performances, Miss Zhang announced the results. "This time, the unqualified classes are class 51, class 52... Class 56." When he reported to class 5 and 6, we were all very nervous. We clenched our fists and looked at Mr. Zhang on the stage. "And five ILP classes!" For a moment, the hearts of our whole class seemed to fall into an abyss, cold and cold. Everyone felt incredible and shocked. We performed very well. How can we fail. Everyone is depressed. At lunch, everyone had no appetite and didn't eat much. In short, everyone's mood is one word: unhappy.
At 3 ., our teacher Tang said that he had something to tell us: "today, everyone did a great job in martial arts and passed the examination. I wish you a happy April Fool's Day!"
Immediately, there was cheering in the classroom... Alas! Why didn't I think of it?
5.有关愚人节的英语作文
Today, we had a rest at noon. We went back to the dormitory leisurely. When we arrived at the dormitory, we dissolved and went back to our respective dormitories, but I went to the bathroom again, while the other side was carefully preparing an unparalleled "trap".
I came back from the toilet and walked into the dormitory. As soon as I pushed the door, I kept the big slippers "falling from the sky" and "bang!" It hit me on the head. I was shocked. I patted my chest and sighed deeply. But I didn't expect that there was another trap "falling from the sky". I was caught by my socks. When they saw it, they immediately became lively. They all covered their stomachs and laughed and said, "did you get a big jump? We just made the trap." They told me the whole routine again, and then tried to make fun of others.
I saw: he took a slipper, gently put it on the door, then closed the door and clamped the slippers. Suddenly, I heard a sound of footsteps, getting closer and closer. The man who went to the bathroom opened the door. Like me just now, he was surprised. We saw his embarrassing image and couldn't help laughing. He was also teased by us.
April Fool's Day is really a happy day. You can make fun of others and yourself. Later on April Fool's day, I will also carefully plan some fun "traps" so that everyone can be teased.

愚人节
愚人节(April Fool's Day或All Fools' Day),也称万愚节、幽默节,时间为4月1日,并未被任何国家认定为法定节日。
